Welcome to Heritage Boys Tennis
SUMMER TENNIS LEAGUE
As before, we will be competing in a friendly summer league with other area high schools (Arapahoe, Mountain Vista, Valor... and others). The league consists of one morning match each week (both "varsity" and "junior varsity"), starting at the beginning of June and running through roughly the third week of July (taking the week of the 4th of July off). Based on recent conversations with the league coordinator, it appears both the boys and the girls will be playing their summer league matches on Wednesday mornings, though I am not certain if the boys or girls matches will go on first. In either case, I would expect an 8:00 AM or roughly 9:30 AM start time for our Wednesday league matches.
In conjunction with the summer league, and as in prior summers, we will conduct an informal mini-tryout, probably consisting of a few late afternoon/early evening round-robin match dates and likely taking place during the last week of May - after school has been let out for the summer. At the moment, Wednesday 05/28 and Thursday 05/29 are likely dates for this mini-tryout, but that is not 100% certain. These tryouts are simply to get an idea of our pecking order out of the gates for our summer program, and will not dictate placement on the fall high school season teams.
SUMMER PRACTICES / DRILL DAYS
In addition to the summer league matches, we will be holding a morning practice/drill session (2 hours - likely from 8AM to 10AM) on Tuesday mornings from the last week of May through mid-July - again taking the week of the 4th of July off. This Tuesday morning slot is potentially subject to change only if the league matches were to wind up not taking place on Wednesdays.
While there are some details to be finalized/confirmed, the summer program looks to be two mornings a week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We will set the fee structure for the summer program once it is finalized - but anticipate it will be roughly in line with the $130 charged last season.
I understand that summers are busy with vacations and other activities, and participation in our summer program is not a mandatory prerequisite to trying out for the fall team. Having said that, does the summer program give our coaching staff a better look at aspiring players going into the fall tryouts? You bet it does. Is it an opportunity for established returning players to demonstrate themselves as leaders? You bet it is. Is it a great opportunity for new players to get socialized into our program and meet a bunch of their fellow players? It definitely is. I would love to see as many of the boys participate as possible.
